Dr. Amine Trabelsi is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the Université de Sherbrooke, where he has been a faculty member since 2022. Previously, he held an Assistant Professor position at Lakehead University and completed his PhD at the University of Alberta. His research addresses key challenges in natural language processing (NLP) with a focus on social impact, including stance detection, emotion recognition and generation, automatic fact-checking, hate speech detection, and unsupervised argument summarization. His research work has been published in top-tier NLP and data-mining conferences such as ACL, NAACL, EACL, and ICDM. His pioneering work in emotional expression in conversations and argument summarization has significantly advanced the field of opinion and sentiment analysis.

Dr. Trabelsi has received Best Paper Awards at local and international venues like the Canadian Conference on AI (CANAI) and CICLing. His research, supported by NSERC and FRQNT grants, includes collaborations with researchers in France and Canada on critical topics like hate speech detection, bias in stance detection models, brain tumour surveillance, and conversational agents that support elderly.

As an Action Editor (Area Chair) for leading NLP conferences such as ACL, NAACL, EACL, EMNLP, and COLING, Dr. Trabelsi ensures high standards for research quality and innovation. He is also a member of a Université de Sherbrooke committee focused on integrating AI into educational curricula. Additionally, he engages with the public through a monthly AI segment on Radio-Canada Estrie, where he demystifies AI and discusses its societal impact, security, and regulation.
